Dataset for Coalition Politics in Central Eastern Europe (released December 2023)
The data were collected for the 2024 volume Coalition Politics in Central Eastern Europe and covers the coalition life cycle in ten Central Eastern European countries from the early 1990s until the end of 2021. The countries included in the dataset are Bulgaria, Czechia, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia.
Much of the data was meticulously collected by experts on coalition politics in their respective countries using standardised coding instructions and interview guidelines. Specifically, the data were gathered from official documents (government, administration, and parliament) and party documents (election manifestos, coalition agreements), by conducting semi-structured interviews with (former) staff and cabinet members as well as a systemic analysis of media reports.
