Party Government in Europe Database (PAGED) is a research infrastructure project that aims to build a state-of-the-art database for comparative coalition research on political institutions, political parties, parliaments and governments.
This infrastructure project builds on the previous international and comparative projects on European parliamentary democracy that are available here on REPDEM – The Representative Democracy Data Archive and concern key issues of today s representative democracy namely delegation, accountability, government formation, governance and government dissolution.
The data that these projects collected are going to be updated, partially revised (for example, in able to satisfactory be able to study government dissolution), as well as providing several alternative datasets (i.e. traditional cabinet level data; “potential coalition” data; yearly and quarterly and monthly data combined with economic indicators and public opinion data). This will enable new comparative studies of representative democracy, its challenges and possible room for reforms. The update and expansion of these datasets will be made by the project participants, as well as using “country experts”, i.e. colleagues around Europe between 2016-2021.
When completed the datasets will cover 29 European countries between 1945-2019. The datasets are released during 2021 and 2022.
The research project is financed by Riksbankens Jubileumsfond for the period 2016-2021.
